Ringing of bells

Published by J Brown on

Starting tomorrow, and on subsequent Sundays, we will be ringing the bells between 12 noon and 12:10. Only one person is in the ringing chamber at a time; either a single bell will be rung, or we will use the Ellacombe Apparatus (enabling one person to ring all six bells).

The idea behind ringing the bells is to try to reduce the sense of isolation experienced by people who are deprived of their normal social interaction; to remind them that God and the Church are still here for them and to give hope for the future.

This use of the bells to remind people that they are not alone is already happening in other European countries.
